Dream Doctors’ medical clowns receive the highest level of professional training and supervision.  Becoming a Dream Doctor requires not only exceptional talent and training, but also a very special kind of person.  Dream Doctors are required to have a professional background in the performance arts in areas such as street theatre, physical theatre and pantomime.  Training includes a five-month intensive program that offers specialized courses to adapt clowning from a performance art to a therapeutic profession in medical setting.

Dream Doctors learn hands-on nursing skills, hospital practices and procedures as well as how to integrate with medical care teams.  Following the initial course, Dream Doctors receive ongoing supervision and approximately 200 hours of ongoing professional development seminars, courses and workshops every year.  Areas of specialization are determined by the needs of each hospital.
